On a bluff overlooking a rural valley west of Portland, the Germantown Hill House offers both prospect and refuge, opening to out to distant views of the landscape and framing a protected inner courtyard. Each side is a variation on a theme, offering subtly different experiences of the landscape and natural light with varying degrees of privacy. Over time, the copper cladding will age and patina while protecting an inner layer of local wood, taking on the color of the surrounding forest and fields. The interiors are detailed and airy, lined with whitewashed woods, textured to capture sunlight.
