On a slender site along the Columbia River, the Figure House frames inspiring views of the river below.  Taking inspiration from the rich logging history of the region, a series of wooden figures weave through the house to delineate spaces, and to provide structure and access to the upper floor.  The main stair gently winds around a sculpted wooden column alongside the dining area, leading to quiet, more enclosed spaces.  Skylights bring soft daylight deep into the main floor, expressing a palette of warm natural materials.  A small courtyard separates the garage and house, inviting the forest landscape to pass through, connecting to a small outdoor terrace and pool.
